Forza 2 December Car Pack Overview.
2006 Ferrari FFX
Beginning production in 2005, the Ferrari FXX encompasses the very best of everything that Ferrari has to offer. In addition to the awe inspiring design and stunning levels of technology, Ferrari has developed a unique customer-client test program that will allow further development of the platform and also allow new technologies to be tested for supercars of the future.
Essentially each owner becomes an amateur Ferrari test driver, a truly unique program in the automotive industry. Sounds like a dream job right? Of course there is a catch, even if you have the 1.8 million dollars (excluding tax) to buy the car your application still has to be approved by an internal committee.
On top of it all, only thirty FXX’s were built and only twenty-nine were offered for public consumption. The last FXX was given to seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher as a retirement gift from Ferrari.
2008 Koenigsegg CCGT
It’s not often that you have to de-tune a road car to comply with ACO and FIA GT1 racing regulations, but the Koenigsegg CC8S, CCR and CCX are far from ordinary cars. By racecar standards the CCGT has a very short length and height, remaining faithful to the road-going relatives. While this may not produce the most downforce, the CCGT design is focused on agility and balance, making it a real ‘drivers’ car. This is in contrast to many GT1 machines racing today and is sure to provide an exciting addition to future competition.
1998 Porsche 911 GT1
When the FIA took control of the BPR Championship and turned it into the FIA GT Championship, manufacturers jumped at the chance to compete in a new and exciting series. The top class would be based on GT1 regulations, requiring 25 homologation cars to be built for public consumption. Never a company to shy away from a new challenge, Porsche went ‘all-in’ with the 911 GT1, making it one of the most aggressive Porsches ever designed.
2007 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
The 1961 250 GTB SWB, 1966 275 GTB/4 and the 1968 365 GTB/4, calling them great or even iconic just wouldn’t quite be right. We're thinking something more along the lines of an automotive tour de force.
These Gran Turismo Berlinetta's or GTB’s as they are affectionately known, represented the best of what Ferrari had to offer, each at a different point in time. These are the Ferrari’s that permanently burn vivid images and rich sounds into your brain, just by watching them drive by.
So much so that the 365 GTB/4, better known as the ‘Daytona’ is regarded by many as the finest road-going Ferrari ever produced. So when word hit the street that the name of Ferrari’s new coupe for 2006 would include both GTB and Fiorano (the hallowed circuit described above) it would have to be something extremely special.
2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
With the incredible success of the minimalist Porsche GT3 and Ferrari Challenge Stradale, Lamborghini launched their interpretation based upon the standard Gallardo coupe. Dubbed the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera (meaning ‘super-light’ in Italian), it features miles of carbon fiber, numerous other high quality lightweight materials, a bare-bones interior and a revised version of the Gallardo’s virtuoso V10.
In total the Superleggera’s dry weight is 220 lbs (100 kgs) lighter, a considerable achievement. Even more astounding is that this car could have been lighter. It retains several creature comforts including power windows, vanity lighting, climate control and the standard brakes are made from steel (although lightweight carbon-ceramic discs are available).
Carbon fiber components are everywhere, but most notably on the: side mirrors, engine cover, door panels, rear diffuser and the undertray. The optional rear wing is also made from carbon fiber and produces an additional 110 lbs of downforce. Lightweight forged aluminum ‘Scorpius’ wheels with pure titanium lug nuts compliments the carbon fiber trim and reduces weight by a further 11 kgs.
2008 Audi R8
So what exactly does a car company do when they have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 7 times in the last 8 years? Well according to Audi the answer is to build a supercar, a masterpiece to showcase the technical prowess that has served them so well in professional racing. Enter the 2008 Audi R8 Road Car, a car containing the racing knowledge gathered over the last decade, all wrapped up in a $120,000 package. Small teams of highly trained specialists construct the R8, working in a new addition to Audi’s Neckersulm factory, and can crank out a maximum of 15 cars per day.
1991 BMW Motorsport E30 M3
After racking up twelve Touring Car championships, 4 victories at the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring and 4 victories at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps I think it is safe to consider the E30 M3 as a motorsport legend. After sitting on the sidelines in the mid 1980’s watching the rival Mercedes-Benz 190E rack up victory after victory BMW decided to make its return to saloon car racing. FIA Group-A rules stipulated that 5,000 homologation cars must be built in one year to gain entry into the various championships and thus the E30 M3 was born. A beautifully balanced car with superb handling and road manners, the E30 M3 was an instant success. As noted above it was brutally fast on the track and displayed incredible reliability.
2007 Renaultsport Clio 197
In the ever popular hot-hatch segment, Renault’s latest offering hopes to significantly raise the performance bar while maintaining both usability and value, long associated with hatchbacks. Also, this car is free for Forza 2 on Xbox Live Marketplace!
1983 Audi Sport Quattro
Built as a homologation special for Group B rallying, the 1983 Audi Sport Quattro introduced the world to high performance four-wheel drive motoring. The race version enjoyed bountiful success and scored many victories in the famed series that was eventually deemed, “Too Fast to Race”.
Over the three year production run, 214 road going examples were built, however only 175 were actually sold to private owners and made it onto European highways. The combination of blistering performance, rarity and a storied motorsports heritage makes the Sport Quattro arguably the single most desirable Audi ever produced.
The lucky few with the opportunity to purchase one chose from red, white, blue or green exterior paired with competition style wheels. Reportedly two cars were finished in black, one of which was purchased by rally legend Walter Rohrl, the “Genius on Wheels”.
1980 Renault 5 Turbo
Many famous and certainly familiar cars were developed out of ‘silhouette’ racing classes, and one of the most successful was the Renault 5 Turbo. Developed as a rally homologation special, the first 400 production models were used for this purpose, specifically for Group 4 World Rally Championship competition.
The formula for the 5 Turbo is certainly interesting, as the Renault 5 was designed as an economical commuter car. By the time Renault’s engineers finished, they had changed from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, threw in a turbocharged and intercooled engine mounted mid-ship, completely revised the rear suspension and for good measure threw on some 10-inch fiberglass fender flares!
They had basically built a new car but still marketed it as part of the Renault 5 series. The car was an immediate success both on the world rally circuit and showroom floors. Debuting for the 1981 World Rally Championship season, the factory backed 5 Turbo won the Monte Carlo Rally, the first event of the year. Unfortunately the two-wheel drive 5 Turbo quickly became outclassed by the four-wheel drive rally cars from Audi and Peugeot.
1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
Back in 1964 the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors ushered in the muscle car era with the release of the now legendary Pontiac GTO. The basic formula was simple, jam a full size engine into mid-size car, throw in some Rallye wheels, bright stripes, radioactive paint colors, a hood scoop or three and voila, you had a muscle car. It seems fitting then that almost ten years later Pontiac would offer the last true muscle car, the ultra rare Firebird Trans Am SD-455.
