Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Review

rheader_gt5prologue

Ryan Davis from Giantbomb.com has reviewed Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and awarded the game 3 out of 5 stars.

The things about Polyphony Digital’s driving simulation series that have kept me at bay over the years–the self-serious tone, the unapologetic driving model–seem to have been softened up a little bit with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, at least enough to allow me to appreciate the painstaking detail that goes into making what is essentially a car commercial in motion. As a taste of what the full version of Gran Turismo 5 will offer, GT5 Prologue is successful–I’m now more excited about the release of Gran Turismo 5 than I’ve been for any other Gran Turismo release. The thing is, Sony’s charging $39.99 for what is essentially an elaborate demo. As pretty as everything in GT5 Prologue is, there’s just not a whole lot to it.

Eurogamer have hosted a interview with Kazunori Yamauchi the man behind the Gran Turismo series of games.

Kazunori Yamauchi is a man living the boy racer dream - or rather, he would be, if boy racers even dared to have this kind of dream. As the creator of what is arguably the world's most authentic, most comprehensive simulation of race driving, he lives and breathes cars and motorsport.

Vehicle deformations to appear in Gran Turismo

photo_people_yamauchi

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said that he expects vehicle deformation to appear in his games very soon.

Speaking on Gamer TV Yamauchi said "We really, really want to put damage onto our vehicles, We've had a lot of discussions with the manufacturers and, although at the beginning they hated the idea of deformation, now they're slowly coming around to it" adding "We've still got a few to convince, but we will. Expect deformation in the very near future: very, very soon,".

The full version of Gran Turismo 5 is around a year away from release while the prologue will be made available on PSN later today.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Review

ss_preview_top_05_jpg

Eurogamer.net have posted a review for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Doing things in high definition takes longer. We all know that. The average car in Gran Turismo 4 was made up of over 4,000 polygons. The figure for GT5 Prologue is meant to be higher than 200,000. Being pretty goes a long way, but with 71 cars and just six tracks (High Speed Ring, Daytona, Fuji Speedway, Eiger Nordwand from Gran Turismo HD Concept, Suzuka Circuit and a section of central London), it will have to go a very long way, right? That's not a lot of content, even when you factor in a second variation of each track. GT4 had 721 cars. GT5 Prologue launches in Europe with 71. We may be 11 million polygons ahead, but we're 650 cars behind.

And then there's Gran Turismo™ TV - a dedicated online channel available exclusively from PLAYSTATION Network and packed with some of the greatest content that motorsport has to offer.

And, when you're done watching live coverage, you can take a more sedate browse through the Gran Turismo museum, where you'll find virtual exhibits on the history of many of the world-class car marques that have starred in Gran Turismo.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue First Impressions

Eurogamer.net have posted a first impression article of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue which they got to play at the Tokyo Game Show.

"The last Gran Turismo mini-release, HD Concept, ended up being very good. Removed from the typically dismal AI competition and focused on one very good track, Eiger Nordwand, getting the most out of every car proved very enjoyable - especially when you factored in the Drift Trial element, which took GT's exacting race model on a tour of Project Gotham-style power-sliding demands. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which is set to debut on the Japanese PlayStation 3 Store and at retail in the region on 13th December, appears to be a lot more traditional."
