Sony and F1 Administration disagree over F1 License [Rumor]

928392_20061019_screen001

This is not confirmed but tgdaily.com are reporting that Sony and F1 Administration have failed to agree on a new licensing deal which now means Sony will no longer be publishing Formula 1 games. EA, Codemasters and Ubisoft have all be named as potential suitors.

If this is the case I personally am more than happy. Being a avid Formula 1 fan I hope the license ends up with a developer who is not tied into one system who is willing to develop a F1 management game along with a racing simulation considering the last great F1 racing sim was Grand Prix 4 (2001) and the last great F1 management game being Grand Prix World which was released in 1999 it is about time.

Eurogamer.net have a new Race Driver video focusing on Le Mans. In this video race drivers are interviewed and give their opinions on the game and how it compares to the real Le Mans circuit.

Unfortunately Eurogamer..net does not support embedding of videos (which is a pain in the arse) so you will have to go here to view the video: http://www.eurogamer.net/tv_video.php?playlist_id=8521

Race Driver GRID First Impressions

grid_wip_logo_on_whitesmaller

The guys over at Eurogamer.net have had a hands on experience with Race Driver GRID and talk about  a new feature called "Flashback" which allows you to undo driving errors which may otherwise have been unrecoverable.

Ever since early man discovered sticks and fire and the wheel and Nurburgring Nordschleife, we've been hitting pause and restarting the track to make up for some terrible error. Whether it's letting a wheel slip beyond the rumble strips into a sandpit of doom, or screwing up the apex on a crucial hairpin, we've all been there, and it's always annoying, and it's always on the final lap, and we always shout, and unfortunately we can't all run away into the hills and blame it on Dietrich. So thank goodness for Race Driver: GRID, which has something called Flashback that you can use to undo catastrophic errors. In the 80-percent-complete preview build we've been pootling around for the last few days, it's exactly the sort of lifesaver you'd expect.

Baja 1000 First Impressions

300px-Truggy

THQ are producing a new racing game based on the Baja 1000 race for the Xbox 360 and PS 3, Eurogamer have a first impressions post up. For those who have not heard of the Baja 1000 before (like myself) here is the description from Wikipedia.

Baja 1000 is an off-road race that takes place on Mexico's Baja California Peninsula in the fall. The event includes various types of vehicle classes such as small and large bore motorcycles, stock VW, production vehicles, buggies, trucks, and custom fabricated race vehicles. The course has remained relatively the same over the years with the majority of events being either a point to point race from Ensenada to La Paz, or a loop race starting and finishing in Ensenada. The name of the event is misleading as the mileage varies for the type of event (loop or point to point) and has represented Kilometers in the past.

Eurogamer have posted there first impressions of this game here. You can also view a trailer for the game here.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Review

ss_preview_top_05_jpg

Eurogamer.net have posted a review for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Doing things in high definition takes longer. We all know that. The average car in Gran Turismo 4 was made up of over 4,000 polygons. The figure for GT5 Prologue is meant to be higher than 200,000. Being pretty goes a long way, but with 71 cars and just six tracks (High Speed Ring, Daytona, Fuji Speedway, Eiger Nordwand from Gran Turismo HD Concept, Suzuka Circuit and a section of central London), it will have to go a very long way, right? That's not a lot of content, even when you factor in a second variation of each track. GT4 had 721 cars. GT5 Prologue launches in Europe with 71. We may be 11 million polygons ahead, but we're 650 cars behind.
